As we watch the birth of the church in Acts, we see a community of believers that are characterized by their proclaiming of the word of God. Not just having preachers or even the aposltes who went about proclaiming, but the whole of the believers are characterized by their proclaiming of the word. In the midst of a consumer culture, where everything is about "What do I get?", how do we build a "proclaiming community" today? I believe it starts with education and good leadership. First and foremost education. We are told “faith comes by hearing, and hearing the word of God.” (Romans 10:17). We obviously cannot teach someone the faith until we first are taught. We must understand our responsibility as “disciples” of Christ to preach the gospel (Mark 15:15-16) as well as to walk worthy of the gospel (Phil 1:27-28). |

A wicked messenger falls into trouble, But a faithful ambassador brings health. Poverty and shame will come to him who disdains correction, But he who regards a rebuke will be honored. A desire accomplished is sweet to the soul, But it is an abomination to fools to depart from evil. Prov 13:17-19 (NKJV) Solomon certainly was a wise man. You remember God said he would grant a great blessing unto Solomon and Solomon asked for “an understanding heart” to guide God's people (1 Kings 3:4-9). Solomon certainly became wise but Solomon already was showing forth good judgment and understanding in his request for wisdom. Understanding there is a knowledge and wisdom that comes from God is the starting point of one becoming truly wise. |
